Delphi – History & the Oracle w/lunch - Full Day Tour

In the morning, you will be met by your English-speaking guide upon disembarkation from the cruise ship to commence the tour. Upon completion of the tour, you will be transferred back to the ship.

Enjoy a scenic drive to Delphi via the National Highway passing through the spectacular sites of Boetia, Thebes and Levadia.

Delphi is by common consent the most spectacularly beautiful ancient site in Greece and the one, which, even to the uninitiated, most vividly evokes the Classical Past.  In antiquity Delphi was regarded as the centre of the world (omphalos of the earth) and to this, and its oracle, the place owed its prestige, which extended far beyond the Greek world.

Our visit to Delphi is divided into three parts: the Sanctuary of Apollo with the Stadion; the Castalian spring and the Sanctuary of Athena at Marmaria (from above as it is a steep ragged climb to access it); and the Museum.

Enjoy lunch at a traditional local restaurant.  En route to Athens, there will be a short stop at the picturesque mountain village of Arachova. The village is famous for its attractive hand-woven carpets and rugs as well as for its wine and cheese.

In the early evening return to Athens.

Olympia was not a city, but a sacred precinct occupied exclusively by temples, dwellings for priests and officials, and public buildings in connection with the Pan-Hellenic games that were hosted there for more than a millennium. In 393 AD, the Christian Emperor Theodosius, in his crackdown of pagan festivals, closed the games and his successor had the temples destroyed. Later, the River Alfios changed its course to flow directly over the sanctuary where it remained buried under seven meters of sand and silt until the 1870s. A striking feature of the festival was the proclamation of the Ekecheiria, or Olympic Truce. Still more surprising was its almost universal observance, witness to the high prestige of the Olympic festival. Explore the archaeological site including the Stadium, the Temples of Zeus & Hera, the Ancient Wrestling House, the Altar (where the Olympic Flame of the modern times is lit), the Roman Aqueduct, the guesthouse and the workshop of the Athenian sculptor, Pheidias.

Next, visit the museum and admire the sculptures from the Temple of Zeus, the statue of Nike Peonios, and the statue of Hermes of Praxiteles. The museum also includes a rich collection of statues of the Roman emperors and objects used or dedicated by the ancient competitors.

Duration: 4 hours approx.

Sorrento - Herculaneum / Naples - 8 hours

A wonderful introduction to the fascinating city of Naples and the world famous archaeological site of Herculaneum. Meet your guide as well as driver portside to set off on your adventure.

This full day tour will take you to two very different places. We have the life, the fun, the fabulous shopping and the almost "chaos" of Naples that of course is a must on any itinerary, but prior to getting there you will take a step back in time to remember the Roman Empire for your visit to Herculaneum.

Just a short drive from Naples Center, Herculaneum, like Pompeii was badly damaged in the Earthquake of 62. It then had to deal with the eruption in 79, falling victim to the rain of ash and lipilli.

The present state of the excavations are very different to those in Pompeii. Herculaneum is much smaller and is thought to adhere more closely to the traditions inherited from the Samonite period in its customs and building practices.

As you explore these ruins and the ancient city becomes alive, you learn to understand that the main industries here were once agriculture and fishing. Learn how the lower classes once mingled freely with the representatives of families of ancient lineage. You will learn about the leisure time and entertainment that once existed here and much, much more. This is an excellent tour to introduce you to just what this area has to offer.

Highlights:

  • Meet your guide as well as driver portside to begin your excursion.
  • On this tour you will get to enjoy both the fun city of Naples, as well as taking a step back in time to remember the Roman Empire during your visit to Herculaneum.

Sorrento - Isle of Capri - 8 hours

Climb aboard the hydrofoil at Sorrento Port for a day of fun 'alla Caprese' and discover what keeps the jet set coming back to the enchanted Isle of Capri, from 1st C Emperor Caesar Augustus to 20th C fashion icon Jackie O...
Your trip begins at the Port of Sorrento - the jumping off point for the hydrofoil to Capri. During the short crossing, your guide will regale you with stories of the people, places and history that have made this four-mile block of limestone so legendary. Once on the island, visit Marina Grande, the main port and a seaside gem with a jumble of multicolored traditional houses, terraced slopes bursting with Mediterranean blooms and jaw-dropping mountains rising up behind. The tour continues by funicular railway to Capri Town. Perched on the saddleback between the island's main mountains, this is where the see-and-be-seen set sips Bellinis on La Piazzetta and high fashion boutiques and artisan workshops line the narrow, elegant streets. And finally, we take a taxi over the gentle slopes of Monte Solaro to Ana Capri, the island's "second city" perched on a verdant plateau. Despite its popularity, Ana Capri still retains its original charms, with cobblers and embroiderers peddling their wares and bougainvillea draping the characteristic whitewashed houses that show a Moorish influence. One highlight of this end of the island is Villa San Michele. Built at the turn of the 20th century by Swedish physician, nature lover and Renaissance man Axel Munthe, we'll visit its lush gardens, charming museum and quaint chapel. Livorno - Pisa & Lucca - 8 hours

Meet your private English-speaking driver at the pier side of Livorno port.

Virtually every guide book to Italy will show you a picture of the leaning tower of Pisa, but the great surprise when you get there is that it is merely the belfry for the most magnificent cathedral complex, with a stunning baptistery and walled cemetery. Though the sea has now receded, in medieval times, Pisa was a great maritime republic, rivalling Genoa and Venice and this superb ensemble, known as the ‘field of miracles’ was a religious hub worthy of its status. The cathedral has a beautiful pulpit, sculpted by Giovanni Pisano and a mosaic, Christ in Majesty, completed by Cimabue in 1302. After years of work to stop the tower from falling down, you can once again ascend to the top and will be very aware of the ‘lean’, as you wind your way up.

Please note that children must be 8 years old to access the Tower.

After lunch (not included), make your way to Lucca, the most perfect completely walled city and birthplace of the composer, Puccini. It is known as the town of 99 churches and you will visit the S.Martino Cathedral and the beautiful San Michele. The Piazza Anfiteatro follows the exact lines of the Roman amphitheatre, indeed, you can still see some of the arches and columns. The surrounding countryside is full of olive groves and Lucca is known for producing some very fine olive oils.

We will ensure your timely return transfer to the Livorno Port.

Highlights:

  • Pisa - Piazza dei Miracoli, Leaning Tower, Baptistery and the Cathedral (Optional and upon a fee: 2 hour guide at disposal and no-line reservation to climb the Leaning Tower)

Enjoy a walking tour of Monaco to view the Prince’s palace, the cathedral, Princess Grace's tomb, and to learn more about the history of this mythical city. Afterwards, visit the heart of Monte-Carlo with its Casino and the Hôtel de Paris. This tiny capital (nicknamed “the Rock”) is built into the mountainside and spreads down to the shores of the Riviera. There are sumptuous boutiques with the latest fashions, palatial luxury hotels, and very chic restaurants. You can visit the Prince's Palace, which was built on the site of a 13th-century Genovese fortress. Admire the splendor of the 16th-century Italian Gallery, the Louis XV lounge, and the 17th-century Palatine Chapel. Time permitting you could also visit the Oceanographic Museum that was inaugurated by Prince Albert I in 1910. Inside you will discover an amazing collection of marine life.

Drive on to the perched, medieval village of Eze that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. The fortified castle’s ruins, sitting on a narrow, rocky peak, still crown this ancient village. The beach in the "baie d'Eze" is easily accessible and is shaded by pine-trees that grow down almost to the water's edge. To reach the entrance, take the small, rocky path and admire the splendid view of the gardens that surround the Château de la Chèvre d'Or. You will be seduced by the marvels of Eze: Small, narrow roads, archways and superbly restored stone houses, shady squares and refreshing ancient fountains. The numerous artisans’ boutiques are hard to resist. The two lookout towers at the entrance, the doorway and the gunboat are all listed as historic monuments.

Monaco & Nice - Full Day Tour - 8 hours
Monaco & Nice Shore Excursion. This excursion is perfect for those who wish to discover the chic French Riviera: in Monte-Carlo, you will get a glimpse of the glamorous Riviera and get closer to the myth of the Actress-Princess: Grace Kelly! Pursue this excursion with the beautiful city of Nice on the Riviera. You will be impressed by the colors of its market and during this afternoon you could visit Matisse Museum showing an important collection of the painter.

9:00 am: Be met at the foot of your cruise ship.

Enjoy a walking tour of Monaco to view the Prince’s palace, the cathedral, Princess Grace's tomb, and to learn more about the history of this mythical city. Afterwards, visit the heart of Monte-Carlo with its Casino and the Hôtel de Paris. Monaco is situated on the Cote d'Azur, between Cap d'Ail and Menton, only a few kilometers from the Italian Riviera. This tiny capital (nicknamed “the Rock”) is built into the mountainside and spreads down to the shores of the Riviera. Admire the splendor of the 16th-century Italian Gallery, the Louis XV lounge, and the 17th-century Palatine Chapel. Do not miss the Oceanographic Museum that was inaugurated by Prince Albert I in 1910. Inside you will discover an amazing collection of marine life. Enjoy lunch at leisure in a typical restaurant.

During the afternoon, go to Nice. The green pines happily rub shoulders with the blue of the Mediterranean Sea and that of the sky. It is easy to see why the Côte d’Azur fascinates so many people. Many of the artists, painters, writers, sculptors and musicians who contributed to the city’s fame, have museums here, dedicated to their works. You will view the luxurious Belle Époque-style residences, including the fabulous Négresco palace, built on the sea front. The Négresco, whose dome can be admired from the Promenade des Anglais, is the finest example of Belle Époque architecture. Visit the Russian Church (not available on Sunday mornings). Enjoy a walking tour of the old town. The streets, with names that evoke ancient guilds, such as “goldsmith” or “bankers,” are full of boutiques and shoppers.

5:00 pm: Return to your ship or to your hotel.

Shipboard Policies
  • Internet Access
Complimentary internet and Wi-Fi access is available on board throughout the ship. Crystal Cruises encourages you to bring your own device/s with you to use during your voyage. Once on board, please connect to Crystal's complimentary Wi-Fi. Certain applications (apps) available on personal phones and other devices are satellite dependent and thus subject to interrupted availability.
  • Pregnancy Policy
Crystal Cruises is unable to accommodate women past their 24th week of pregnancy.

  • Smoking Policy
Crystal Cruises kindly asks all guests to observe the non-smoking areas on board which have been created for the comfort and enjoyment of everyone.

Indoor smoking is permitted only in the Connoisseur Club smoking lounge. Smoking is prohibited in all other indoor areas of the ship including all other public rooms, lounges, corridors and restaurants, as well as all staterooms, suites and verandahs. Please note, if smoke is detected in a stateroom or suite, a cleaning fee of $250 per incident will be billed to your account.

Outdoor smoking is allowed in a limited number of designated spaces as follows:

    Cigarette Smoking (including electronic cigarettes):

    • Decks 11, 10, 9, and 8 Aft
    • Seahorse pool area, port side only
    • Promenade Deck

    Cigar and Pipe Smoking:

    • Decks 11, 10, 9, and 8 Aft

  • Special Dietary Needs - Advance Notice Required
Guest requiring a special diet, including any food allergies, or needing specific food items during their cruise, should submit a written dietary request to the Onboard Guest Services Department, either by fax at (310)785-3975 or via email to onboardgstsvcs@crystalcruises.com, at least 90 days (3 months) prior to sailing. Guests must confirm arrangements with the Food and Beverage staff on the day of embarkation. There may be a charge for some special requests, as well as any applicable shipping fees.

A wide choice of pre-packaged kosher-certified meals, including meats, seafood, and poultry, as well as white and red kosher wines, is available on a limited basis, on every itinerary. All chefs, kitchen, and dining staff have been trained in kosher food preparation, handling, and servicing. Only kosher pots, pans, and utensils are used, and plates, silverware, and glassware are washed separately. Due to limited provisioning resources, the number of guests per cruise who may partake in a kosher-style program is restricted to 20. Guests whose diet requires, or who wish to dine kosher-style, must provide Crystal Cruises with advance notice at the time of the initial reservation, and no less than 90 days prior to sailing. Crystal will do all they can to ensure guests' needs are met. Due to limited availability, kosher-style dining is subject to confirmation from Crystal Cruises.

  • Wheelchair Access & Special Needs
Guests with any disability, including those primarily confined to wheelchairs or scooters, are medically oxygen dependent, are hearing impaired or use service animals, must notify Crystal Cruises at the time of booking as they may be required to submit forms for Release and Indemnity directly to Onboard Guest Services, by fax to 310-785-3975 or via email at onboardgstsvcs@crystalcruises.com, prior to sailing.

For complete details and guidelines, guests who have special requirements, physical challenges or need oxygen should refer to the Onboard Accessibility Guide. If a guest would like a hard copy of the Onboard Accessibility Guide, they may request it through the Onboard Guest Services department.

Guests must bring their own wheelchair or electric scooter that does not exceed 22" wide. Please note: Crystal Cruises reserves the right to limit the number of electric scooters on board.

Crystal's ships were designed to be accessible for the physically challenged, with ramp access to most decks and public areas. Ships’ elevators can accommodate most wheelchairs, motorized wheelchairs or electrically-powered scooters that do not exceed 22" wide, allowing access to all public decks. It is strongly recommended that the guest be accompanied by a traveling companion for better access to all areas on and around both Crystal ships, as well as ashore.

Certain staterooms offer extra-wide doors, fully wheelchair-accessible bathrooms and wheelchair-accessible closets with low-fitted hanging rods. Some suites offer limited wheelchair access to personal facilities. Staterooms and suites designated for guests with disabilities are subject to availability and must be reserved prior to boarding the ship.

    Going Ashore
As some ports of call are anchorage ports and others may be challenging, certain physical conditions may preclude guests requiring wheelchairs or scooters from going ashore, especially in tender ports. This decision is made at the discretion of the ship’s Captain for safety reasons and is binding.

The onboard Shore Excursions staff is able to assist with recommendations on which Crystal Adventures tours, if any, are best suited for guests with physical challenges or disabilities.

Additional conditions may apply and should be discussed in detail with Onboard Guest Services at time of booking.
