The Travel + Leisure World's Best Safari
Featuring only "World's Best" List Hotels
We're fans of Travel+Leisure's annual Best in the World polls. (Admittedly, we're just a bit prejudiced, having been voted World's Best Safari Outfitter by T+L a record nine times.) So a few years ago we decided to honour Travel+Leisure and its readers by creating an all-star safari that sets down at some of Africa's best hotels, as consistently recognized by the magazine (and by our happy guests).
We begin with four nights in Cape Town's "knockout" One&Only, a resort of "outsize luxury" on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and a superb base for explorations in this most cosmopolitan of cities and its varied, magnificent environs. Then comes a splendid four nights in the bush at Singita Lebombo or Singita Sweni Lodge—both much-admired, both l ocated in Kruger National Park, and two of the ?nest and most intelligently designed lodges on the continent. We end with a perennial favourite, the famed Royal Livingstone, where mist from nearby Victoria Falls freshens our day.
- Four in-depth days in effervescent Cape Town, exhilarating visits to Table Mountain, the charmingly colorful Malay Quarter, an inspirational AmericaShare project in Cape Town, and the city’s many other shopping, historical, and human highpoints.
- Encounters with elite vintners in the gorgeous Cape Winelands.
- Touchdown-to-takeoff service from highly credentialed Micato Safari Directors and 24/7 Micato Concierge Service.
- Wildlife excursions by 4-wheel drive vehicles and on foot in Kruger National Park.
- Two days of awe-inspiring views and rainforest trail walking at astonishing Victoria Falls.
Singita'Singita' means "The Miracle". And, as you will find, breakfasting above Sand River on a timber deck cradled in the branches of towering Jackalberry trees, it is a fitting name for this intimate wildlife experience. Singita is also something of a conservation miracle: hidden in the heart of the game-rich Sabi Sand Game Reserve bordering on Kruger National Park, Singita was until recently the domain of hunters. Innovative land restoration has turned Singita into a sanctuary, with antiques and a library of Africana the only echoes of wilder times in this exclusive retreat. Intimacy is the hallmark of Singita's special style - just eight exquisitely appointed double suites, separated into two exclusive camps set in shady woodland above Sand River. Each expansive suite ensures absolute privacy with its own in-suite bathroom and outside shower, double-sided fireplace, air-conditioning, private leisure deck and living area, with views across the river to the plains beyond. Singita's cuisine is worthy of its Relais et Chateaux classification and is complemented by one of southern Africa's finest wine cellars.
Cape TownCape Town is southern Africa's most beautiful, most romantic and most-visited city. Few urban centers anywhere can match its setting along the Cape Peninsula spine, which slides like the mighty tail of the continent into the Atlantic Ocean. By far the most striking - and famous - of its sights is Table Mountain, frequently mantled by clouds, and rearing up from the middle of the city to provide a constantly changing vista to the suburbs below. Table Mountain is the city's solid core which divides the city into distinct zones with public gardens, wilderness, forests, hiking routes, vineyards and desirable residential areas trailing down it's lower slopes.
