Overview

MT Sobek

Tackle one of the world's most spectacular mountain circuits in the Cordillera Huayhuash, a compact yet magnificent range that's richly glaciated, steep, and dramatic. Six of Peru's highest mountains rise from this striking massif. This classic, multi-day trek in the Peruvian Andes is challenging but rewarding, with unequalled views of its turquoise glacial lakes, jagged, snow-capped peaks, and stunning hanging glaciers that extend thousands of feet from the peaks. Let our experienced team of mountain guides support you in this trek of a lifetime through remote and rugged terrain.

Highlights:
  • Challenge yourself with 11 days of high-altitude hiking, including eight mountain passes over 15,000 feet
  • Take in the magnificent scenery of snow-capped mountains, turquoise lakes, hot springs, and native wildlife of the Cordillera Huayhuash
  • Acclimate first with three days in the mountaineering center of Huaraz, with short hikes and a visit to the pre-Inca site of Chavin de Huantar

Important Trip Details:
This is a very challenging trek with consecutive days of strenuous hiking on rocky terrain, generally between elevations of 13,000-16,000 feet (and two high passes around 16,600 feet). Overnight camps are at elevations of ~13,300-14,800 feet. Physical exertion is further challenged by basic camping conditions and varying weather. Participants should look forward to a goal-oriented experience.

Lima

Lima

Lima, "the City of the Kings," became the effective capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru, established 1560. Today, a visit to Lima may serve as a unique Peruvian experience that offers a glimpse into the Andean world, Spanish tradition and the country's modern aspect. Visit handsome old buildings and baroque churches that testify to the city's religious background and the Plaza de Armas, shared by the realms of the Catholic church, municipality and national government. The pre-Inca ruins of Pachacamac lie a short distance south of the city. Once a ceremonial site, Pachacamac has been the most important religious center of the Andean world since before the age of Christ. Stop and admire The Temple of the Sun and the Moon, Lima's outstanding museums, and Machu Picchu - a "Jewel in the Mist."
