6-Nights Auckland to Wellington: North Island Highlights

This is a sample itinerary, which offers a taste of what is possible on a group vacation with Goway Groups Only. All of our group vacations are private and fully customizable for any group of 10-or-more travelers.

This 7-day group vacation to New Zealand showcases the highlights of the North Island, including Auckland, Rotorua, Napier and Wellington. It includes first-class accommodation and group tours.

Your trip to New Zealand begins in Auckland, known as the City of Sails, due to its active harbour. A sightseeing tour showcases the Auckland War Memorial Museum to learn about the people, the flora and fauna, and landforms of these unique Islands.

Journey through the North Island to Waitomo, and the famous glowworm caves, where you take a short boat journey below the ground and glide through the starry wonderland. Continue on to Rotorua, where in the evening, a traditional hangi feast, enjoy the traditional foods as you learn about the Maori people and history, and listen to some of their traditional songs.

Rotorua is also famous for it’s geothermal activity, and before leaving there is time for a tour of Te Puia/Te Ra, from geysers and mud pools to word carving and flax weaving schools, you continue to learn more about this diverse country and its history and culture.

In 1931 Napier was flattened by an earthquake, in rebuilt itself as a unique city in the Art Deco style of architecture. The Art Deco Trust will take you on a walk around the city and bring the history to life as you explore.

Travel through the countryside of the Hawkes Bay area and Manawatu, and along the Kapiti Coast line in to the capital city of Wellington, which sits on a natural harbour.

In Wellington, travel by the Cable Car, from the city centre up to the summit. You can then walk around the Botanical Gardens, or just enjoy the stunning views. Finally, spend time at Te Papa Museum, which is the national museum of New Zealand.

• Begin in Auckland, New Zealand, at Auckland Museum, exploring Pacific taonga and harbour views.
• Glide beneath glowworm constellations in Waitomo Caves, then continue through Fitzgerald Glade to Rotorua.
• Witness Pohutu Geyser and Maori arts at Te Puia, then feast at Te Pa Tu.
• Stroll Napier’s art deco quarter and savour a three-course lunch at Mission Estate Winery.
• Conclude in Wellington, touring Te Papa and Old St Paul’s before a harbour-side farewell.
